SVAN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
SVAN has a working board of 11 and a growing membership of 220. Each of the board members is responsible for some facet of the organization, whether it is on the artistic, membership, organizational or financial portion of SVAN. But these hard working volunteers cannot do all this work on their own. They need help with creating ideas and bringing them to fruition. SVAN needs both committee members and short time project workers.
Listed below are some of the ways you can become involved in your community and help the arts grow and prosper in the Sacandaga region. Included in this region are the communities within the Sacandaga watershed portion of Fulton, Hamilton, Saratoga and Warren counties that include the communities of Arietta, Benson, Bleeker, Broadalbin, Day, Edinburg, Hadley, Hope, Lake Luzerne, Lake Pleasant, Mayfield, North Hampton, Northville, Piseco, Providence, Speculator, Wells, as well as Johnstown, Gloversville and Vail Mills.
Each committee’s needs vary, but here are a few positions where help is always needed. Some people prefer a long commitment where others like to work on an occasional or short time project. We always need volunteers to:
- Identify and/or book high quality musical groups or singers,
- Dance groups,
- Publicity (writing articles, taking pictures at events, distributing posters, etc)
- Selling tickets (events and quilt raffle),
- Reception assistants (such as art shows or other SVAN events),
- Set up,/take down (lights, equipment, chairs etc),
- Theater (stage hands, actors, singers, dancers),
- Event organizers,
- Administrative (grant writing, typists and poster designers),
- Volunteers to put up signs before events and take down after event,
- Instructors
- Quilters
- Hanging art in galleries,
- Membership and fundraising committee
- Members and ideas of how to promote and obtain financial opportunities for SVAN
